Veep Pick- Addendum
When I wrote my post before, I didn't realize one piece of information: John McCain only met Sarah Palin once before deciding on her as the Vice Presidential nominee.

I'm sorry- that's not a gamble; that's stupidly reckless.

Everything I've seen about Sarah Palin, I've liked. I think she has a very good chance as a leader of the GOP- even as a President- in the future.

But for McCain to make this decision after meeting her once is reckless on his part. I would have been MUCH happier if he had picked Joe Lieberman, because I believe he really thinks Lieberman could take over as President if needed.

There's no way someone could make that decision after one meeting.

I like Gov. Palin. I hope she does very well. My comments don't reflect on her at all.

But they don't reflect on John McCain very well.

Except for that whole still part of the opposing party. Who once ran as the VP FOR that party. Don't get me wrong. I think Leiberman is a TERRIBLE Democrat and he should switch parties. He'd match well with McCain and would make a acceptable VP for that party. But he wouldn't exactly bring anything to McCain's campaign...

Probably not (though it might appeal to middle of the road voters)

If McCain's arguement was "Having dealt with Sarah Palin, I believe she's qualified to take over as President should something happen to me." I'd give McCain the benefit of the doubt. But he can't- not after only meeting her one time. His arguement is "She'll help me win, so she's my choice."

Politically, it's a smart move. The base is thrilled with her. From what I've seen, I'm impressed with her. But "impressed" isn't the same thing as "willing to put you a heartbeat from the President".

It's nothing against Palin. It's everything to do with McCain's judgement. Obama didn't pick an exciting VP selection, but Biden (like Cheney, like Gore, like Bush Sr.) was an old hand at politics, and could have stepped in if required. He was the safe, smart pick... the conservative pick, if you will.

The irony is that as more time goes by (a) the more I like Gov. Palin and (b) the angrier I get at McCain for being so reckless.
